NMH Upward Bound Summer Academy Dial/Self AmeriCorps Position

For DIAL/SELF AmeriCorps members (ACs) the NMH UB Summer Academy is an intense, challenging, and rewarding experience. ACs live on campus with students and implement programming such as providing academic and social support, tutoring, leading trips, running daily activities, providing one-on-one help in the classroom, assisting with UB events, and other individualized duties. Days begin at 7:30am and end at 11:00pm with time off for ACs in their schedules. Summer Academy runs Monday through Friday. Students return home on Fridays and ACs have the weekends off but can choose to stay on campus. Housing and food are provided for the entire 7 weeks that ACs are on campus.

Interactions with students and staff will increase ACs leadership and facilitation skills, impact career choices and inform perspectives on education. Living on campus with students will be one of the most meaningful components of the summer program. ACs are responsible for modeling and enforcing UB expectations, maintaining open lines of communication with students while clearly defining boundaries, roles and consequences. ACs aid in the maintenance of a safe, healthy environment in which students can learn, grow, and build upon their college goals. Fulfilling the following expectations and duties will ensure such an environment.
