Summer Publishing Intern

Internship Description:
Our interns are introduced to all aspects of agency work. They are responsible for basic administrative tasks related to maintaining our authors’ book files, which contain commentary on developing projects, information about the status of submissions, and royalty statements. They are also responsible for packing and shipping books, contracts and assorted correspondence. Interns are also heavily involved in our management of queries. This means evaluating the hundreds of solicitations for representation we receive from prospective authors each week (most via email), turning down many of these solicitations, and requesting to see the projects described in others. Once an intern has reached a thorough understanding of how we operate, he or she will also be responsible for reading and reporting on author manuscripts and book proposals. Those interns who show superior competence will be called upon to perform an assortment of more involved projects, such as reviewing contracts, accumulating research to supplement submissions, and assisting in various marketing projects.
 
Internship Qualifications:
Interested applicants should be pursuing a degree in English or in a related area of study. Excellent written communication skills and analytical reading skills are a must as is a love of books. Prior experience in publishing is not necessary, but an interest in literature is. Previous office experience is helpful. Overall, we seek bright, disciplined, and highly motivated candidates who are eager to learn and who like to read.
