Paid Internship - Climate Activist

Clean Water Action is New Jersey's largest non-profit environmental organization. With over 150,000 individual members here in NJ, Clean Water Action effectively educates and activates communities in order to improve our democracy and make it work for all New Jersey residents. Clean Water Action uses a bottom-up approach to ensure that top-down pieces of environmental legislation are strong and effective.
We are hiring summer 2020 interns to join the grassroots effort to protect New Jersey’s air and water. In this position, you will take on the role of pressuring New Jersey’s legislative leaders to pass progressive legislation. This will include lobbying for a statewide ban on single-use plastics, a moratorium on all new fossil fuel projects in NJ, the replacement of lead service lines in the city of Newark, and fighting for New Jersey’s precious ecosystems. We will also be making endorsements and galvanizing support for congressional environmental leaders running in the 2020 NJ elections. Opportunities to spend time organizing in our Michigan or Pennsylvania offices to impact the 2020 presidential election may also be available. As a climate activist, you will also be working on federal and local environmental issues, generating public comments against reckless rollbacks to the EPA, and in support of a stronger Energy Master Plan.
Responsibilities:
  • Promote action on progressive issues to influence national, state, and local decision makers.
  • Provide communication with people that is independent of the mass media
  • Recruit members by collecting signatures and contact info.
  • Raise funds to support our research, lobbying and educational campaigns
  • Identify and activate individuals who wish to participate in other activities, including letter writing, attending meetings, volunteer time, turning out the vote, etc.

Requirements:
  • Must have strong communication skills.
  • Must be committed to progressive politics and environmental issues.
