Cyber Strategic Planning Summer Intern

About New York City Cyber Command:

New York City Cyber Command (NYC3) is committed to protecting City systems that provide vital services to New Yorkers from cyber threats, and helping residents become safer in their digital lives.

As the organization defending the largest municipality in the country, NYC3 is charged with directing citywide incident response, setting citywide cybersecurity policies and standards and working with city agencies to strengthen their cyber defenses.  

Job Description:
Under the guidance of the Strategic Planning Team, you will be responsible for helping agencies enhance their cyber resiliency by supporting the team responsible for creating agency-specific cyber security strategic plans and roadmaps. These foundational documents help the agency and NYC3 prioritize each agency’s focus on maturing targeted elements of their respective cybersecurity program.

Activities of the Cybersecurity Strategic Planning Intern will include, but are not limited to:
  • Conduct tracking, reporting, and analysis of the rollout of one-year roadmaps and multi-year strategic plans for NYC agencies to increase their cyber resiliency;
  • Draft, edit, and refine materials such as slide decks and trackers to support inter-agency engagement;
  • Maintain the NYC3 Strategic Planning Team document organization system; 
  • Attend meetings and assist with tracking and follow-up on key internal action items;
  • Assist the Strategic Planning Team in the design of new strategic planning products and services to enhance the development, communication, maintenance, and updating of agency-specific cyber security strategic plans and roadmaps.

Other Duties:
  • Contribute to the organizational culture and ethos, both internally and externally;
  • Support NYC Cyber Command during a significant cyber incident;

Applicants can come from a broad set of backgrounds. Examples of individuals and how we may use their specific skill set:
  • Visually or artistically-talented person to help with illustrating process and making products visually appealing and persuasive;
  • A technical person who can help automate internal workflows and provide technical knowledge in support of planning; 
  • A government or political science major with experience thinking about public/private collaborative work.

Preferred Skills:
  • Excellent verbal & written communication skills;
  • Demonstrated experience working with others on challenging, complex initiatives and efforts;
  • Outstanding collaboration skills;
  • Strong attention to detail;
  • Excellent organization skills.
