GIS Technician I - Intern (Seasonal - Summer 2020)

DEPARTMENT: GIS
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Desktop GIS data creation and editing, including transcribing information from hard copy
documents into GIS, creating various maps for City departments, and may include some field
data collection using ArcGIS Online and iPads.
EXAMPLES OF DUTIES:
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
Knowledge of desktop ArcGIS is required; knowledge of diversity, equity and inclusion;
experience working with a diverse workforce and ability to respond to resident's questions and
service requests in a courteous, equitable and timely manner. Applicant must have completed a
minimum of two courses related to GIS (introductory courses such as Intro to ArcGIS I & II) or
have professional experience equivalent to or exceeding the minimum course requirement.
Successful applicant must be able to work independently on projects and understand and carry
out oral and written instructions. The successful candidate will possess a demonstrated ability to
follow a management style that is input oriented and values equity, problem solving and the
development of partnerships and a desire to be part of an organization that values service,
people, integrity, responsibility, innovation and teamwork.
TYPICAL QUALIFICATIONS:
REQUIRED EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING:
Knowledge of desktop ArcGIS, completion of two courses related to GIS (introductory courses
such as Intro to ArcGIS I & II) or have professional experience equivalent to or exceeding the
minimum course requirement.
SUPPLEMENTAL INFORMATION:
The internship schedule is flexible, but is anticipated to begin mid-May of 2020 and end in
August of 2020, for a 13-week term. The average work week will be approximately 40 hours
from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Monday through Friday.
