Accountant
Position Summary:
To record the financial position of the credit union in an accurate and timely manner, and to provide support for Finance/Accounting issues to internal business and operational team customers in a timely and professional manner.
Major Duties and Responsibilities:
- Accurately measure, record and report the financial performance of the credit union.
- Carry out duties utilizing sound accounting principles (GAAP,) and in compliance with laws, regulations, and credit union procedures.
- Prepare and perform General Ledger journal entries and reconciliations, and undertake A/P, A/R and reporting duties as assigned, to accurately reflect the financial performance of branches and departments within the organization.
- Utilize core Accounting systems to accurately and thoroughly document financial transactions.
- Respond to inquiries from internal customers with an emphasis on providing superior customer service.
- Complete cross-training of additional duties within the Accounting Department to allow effective backup support for Accounting activities.
- Perform additional projects and duties as business needs require.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- General accounting knowledge, including G/L, A/P, A/R and Financial Reporting
- Financial institution accounting regulations knowledge
- Accounting software knowledge and skills to complete required duties
- Skills in resolving problems, building rapport with internal customers and external contacts, and providing excellent customer service
- Ability to work both independently and as part of a team
Experience:
- 1+ year of accounting experience desired.
- Experience of Financial institution accounting desired.
Education: Bachelor's Degree in Accounting or Finance preferred. Associate Degree in Accounting or equivalent experience will be considered.
