HIRING RANGE: $14.00 - 16.00/hourly depending on qualifications
LOCATION: Western Service Center, Apple Valley

This temporary position is a great opportunity for a June 2020 or recent graduate to further explore their interest and gain work experience in the environmental resources field. This is a 6-month temporary, full-time internship to start in the spring/early summer. The intern will split his/her time assisting County staff with projects and programs in the groundwater management and land conservation units.

Groundwater Management projects include promoting the sealing of unused wells by identifying properties that have a high likelihood of having an unused, unsealed well; using GIS, the well database, current and historic aerial photographs, and other information to identify neighborhoods to be targeted for the promotion of well seal grants; and inspecting wells to ensure groundwater protection.

Land Conservation activities will primarily focus on implementing elements of the Communication Plan such as developing outreach materials; updating County website content; assisting with the development of new Program Guidelines; conducting landowner interviews; facilitating landowner questionnaires; and assisting with easement monitoring.

Additional learning opportunities will occur through further engagement in department activities, including groundwater and surface water sampling events, nitrate testing clinics, Household Hazardous Waste Collection Days, and the Dakota County Fair. This internship position functions in a staff-level capacity as part of the Environmental Resources Department at the Western Service Center in Apple Valley, MN.
