AOT Environmental Biologist I

The Vermont Agency of Transportation is hiring an Environmental Biologist to support its programs and projects. The AOT Environmental Biologist reviews and analyzes proposed projects and plans for consistency with environmental policies, statutes, regulations, and rules. Conducts site visits and collects and analyzes information to prepare resource identification plots, reports, environmental documents, and natural resource permit applications. The AOT Environmental Biologists works closely with project management teams and makes recommendations for avoiding, minimizing, and mitigating project related natural resource impacts, as well as project environmental improvement for natural resources such as wildlife and water quality. The incumbent performs broad coordination on natural resource impacts with state and federal agencies. Additionally, the position contributes to the preparation of relative Agency policy and guidelines and presents and distributes informational and educational materials. Incumbent attends and testifies at Act 250 and other public hearings and meetings. A large portion of the workload will be wetland and T&E species coordination. Therefore, applicants will need to possess wetland delineation experience as well as experience working with state and federally listed bats, mussels, and to a lesser extent, plants. The AOT Biologist is required to work effectively independently as well as working as part of a complex and diverse multi-disciplinary team.

Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in a biological-life science or an environmental or natural resources field AND two (2)years or more of experience at or above a technical level in the field of natural resources, involving wetlands, fisheries, wildlife, or threatened or endangered species.
OR
Master's degree in a biological-life science or an environmental or natural resources field AND one (1) year or more of experience at or above a technical level in the field of natural resources, involving wetlands, fisheries, wildlife, or threatened or endangered species.
