Entry-Level Media Buyer



The Role:
This Entry-Level Media Buyer, also known as Assistant Negotiator is primarily responsible for supporting the Digital Investment team in the development of media plans and coordinating the day-to-day efforts of maintaining media plans for assigned client account(s).

The key to success, and foundation for future growth, is being organized and aware. The Assistant Negotiator encompasses active learning through participation in order to absorb as much media knowledge as possible. This includes activities such as, volunteering to take on additional responsibility, but not to the detriment of assigned work; being inquisitive and asking questions; keeping up on industry news and trends via advertising and media trade journals, on-line sources to better understand the overall landscape in which OMD and the client operate; seeking out people in other OMD disciplines to understand what they do and how that dovetails with Digital efforts; attending internal and external meetings and presentations including taking part in brainstorming sessions; attending any educational opportunities OMD offers.

This position will contribute to the media plan development in any number of ways including gathering data using agency tools and on-line sources to support the media recommendations, and assisting in writing competitive reports.

Responsibilities:
  • Set up meetings
  • Handle, answer and own questions about the billing process/discrepancies
  • Prepare media authorizations; evaluate and report on digital campaigns
  • Coordinate input from client and OMD internal teams
  • Issue insertion orders; and follow up on requests for information from reps.
  • Once comfortable within the role, the Assistant Negotiator will begin working on more client facing requests, including building PowerPoint presentations and building/negotiating media plans.

Requirements:
  • 4-year college degree with coursework emphasis in advertising/marketing
  • Previous internship in advertising/media planning a plus
  • Actively seeks to learn about the application of the principles of media, marketing and advertising
  • Pursues information to better understand media, marketing and advertising landscape in which client and OMD operate
  • An avid explorer in and user of multi-digital vehicles; equal enthusiasm and desire to broaden knowledge of offline media opportunities
  • Enjoys working with and has aptitude for mathematical concepts Fluent user of Microsoft office especially Excel and PowerPoint Willing to learn and able to understand application of, and consistently advance knowledge using agency tools such as AdViews, E-telmar (crosstab and R/F) basics Solves problems with a minimum of noise
  • Excellent presentation skills
  • Conveys thoughts, ideas, feelings and decisions in a clear, concise and appropriate manner
  • Demonstrates both good verbal and written skills and is a good listener
