Compensation: $14-$17/hr.

About the Finance Department

The Finance Department establishes and maintains effective accounting and reporting systems capable of accurately reflecting the operations of the organization. We strive to be a strategic partner and ensure that proper systems and controls are in place to safeguard all assets of the Foundations. Across all departments at the McCormick Foundation’s downtown office and Cantigny Park in Wheaton, our team supports nearly 200 employees (full-time, part-time, and seasonal staff).

Opportunity: Finance Intern

Cantigny Park, part of the McCormick Foundation, is looking for a Finance Intern to perform and support a range of activities in the department. Specifically, the Intern will have the opportunity to learn about and contribute to vital day-to-day team functions such as processing invoices, generating financial statements and other reports, helping with the budgeting process, assisting with the bond financing reimbursement process, and working with Traverse, our accounting system. This is an incredible learning opportunity for a graduate student or undergraduate upperclassman in a Finance, Accounting, or similar program looking for practical experience in a fast-paced and collaborative office environment. This is a part-time position (16-24 hours/week) through December 2020 based in Wheaton, Illinois that reports to the Staff Accountant.

Responsibilities

  • Opportunities to shadow finance/accounting staff members to expand knowledge, processes and techniques
  • Assist with bond financing reimbursements
  • Prepare account analysis, generate, track and review reports from a variety of sources
  • Learn how to generate financial statements, process invoices, enter approved general ledger entries into accounting system, and perform general filing of payables
  • Assist during the budget preparation and data upload process
  • Hands-on experience with Traverse, an accounting system
  • Learn about and follow internal controls for the Finance department
  • Assist with cleaning up Finance’s fixed asset tracking file and assist with implementing new tracking process

Qualifications

  • Currently enrolled in an accredited undergraduate or graduate degree program in finance, accounting or closely related field (graduate students or undergraduate upperclassmen preferred)
  • Outstanding data entry skills, attention to detail, organization and time management
  • Excellent computer skills and comfort with MS Office Suite (MS Word, Excel, and PowerPoint)
  • Ability to develop and use spreadsheets, databases and other applications
  • Adaptability and flexibility in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment with the ability to work independently
  • Demonstrated passion for the Foundation’s values with commitment to deliver results measured against the Foundation’s mission
  • Outstanding interpersonal skills and experience building relationships with multiple stakeholders by listening to new ideas, encouraging dialogue, and inspiring people to work towards common goals
  • Excellent writing and presentation skills, particularly in communication with diverse constituencies in a variety of settings
  • Ability to work in the United States without sponsorship
