Youth Programs Intern - Summer 2020

Project Description
The Youth Programs Intern will assist with the development and implementation of the Museum Apprentice Program (MAP), a hands-on project based volunteer program for teenagers 13-18 years old. The intern will also research and summarize best-practices for youth leadership development programs to enable to growth and development of MAP Leaders, a cohort of youths brought together during the summer. The intern will work closely with the Public and Youth Programs Coordinator and MAP Assistant to provide the teenagers with exceptional museum learning experiences, teambuilding exercise, and career exploration opportunities.
Additional Internship Duties
·        Assist with the development of MAP curriculum and projects surrounding the themes of civic engagement and youth advocacy.
·        Help plan trainings for the youth leadership development program, MAP Leaders.
·        Develop and lead a workshop on youth leadership development for MAP Leaders.
·        Research and summarize best-practices for youth leadership development programs.
·        Create a digital database of teambuilding challenges.
·        Help prepare materials for meetings.
·        Assist staff in the continued evaluation of the program by observing, implementing program changes, and submitting a summative evaluation report.
·        Assist with all stages of planning and executing public events as needed.
Internship Requirements
Intern should:
·        Have completed at least one year of college.
·        Have experience working with adolescent youth in middle and high school.
·        Have an academic background in nonprofit management, humanities, history, social work, education, family studies, museum studies, child development, psychology, sociology, or a related field.
·        Have good oral and written communication skills.
·        Have excellent organizational and research skills.
·        Have web researching skills and a basic knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint
·        Exhibit professional behavior and responsible work ethic
·        Have excellent customer service skills
·        Have the ability to multi-task
·        Be available Saturdays and some evenings to help facilitate meetings and programs.
·        Be available to work a minimum of 12 hours per week.
