The New York Graduate Plan Student

The New York Graduate Plan operates as an educational opportunity for university enrolled students and alumni. The program will validate student coursework and allow students to gain first-hand experience learning, training and working within the United Nations and with Civil Society to promote the values established by the 2030 Agenda in the field.

Functioning as two separate courses under one program, participants of the New York Graduate Plan will undergo Diplomatic Training provided by the United Nations and held on site in United Nations Headquarters and Field Training in peacebuilding, community building, and experience with Civil Society at the United Nations provided by Nonviolence International New York. With our affiliates in the United Nations, students in the program will study diplomacy directly from current and former diplomats in addition to exploring the Sustainable Development Goals proposed by the UN-2030 Agenda. Participants of the program will then utilize the skills developed from both trainings to lead an individual project supported by Nonviolence International New York and its partners. Upon successful completion of each training, participants will utilize their newly developed skills and insight toward the creation of a 15-page research paper focused on their area of expertise.

The initial duration of the program spans three months and consists of two separate segments:
Diplomatic Training will offer free access to the United Nations and program participants will be provided with a Grounds Pass through the United Nations. In keeping with the spirit of a practical and hands-on learning methodology, courses will blend classroom instruction with observation of UN General Assembly sessions and other UN forums. Students will develop a global political perspective through a first-hand look at the workings of an international political system. Upon successful completion of Field Training, students will receive a certificate of merit from the United Nations and Nonviolence International New York.

Our joint program provides a rare opportunity for students to learn about diplomacy from diplomats themselves. Although there is no shortage of courses on global politics and policies, few (if any) can provide the same quality education and real world experience that Nonviolence International New York and the United Nations is uniquely situated to provide. Through this method, students will gain an understanding of current global issues and their impact on nations and communities, both on an international stage and in local communities. Students will have the additional opportunity to learn from and interact with current UN ambassadors, diplomats, delegates, university professors, prominent members from multiple NGO's, and ambassadors to the United Nations.
