Summer Intern: Advice Products

Do you want to help your peers choose the right credit cards and the best graduate degree programs? Then the Advice Products team at U.S. News wants to hear from you. The Advice Products intern will advance his or her skills in writing, editing, optimizing content for search, and data gathering. The ideal intern can write error-free copy, edit for clarity and handle several deadline-driven tasks at once. Tasks may include writing bylined guides and other types of content for our Best Colleges rankings, updating Best Jobs profiles, and researching and editing other types of work, such as credit cards and loans articles. You'll learn how to write and edit for a consumer audience; how to use a content management system; SEO best practices; analytics tools to monitor site traffic; and how to prioritize projects to meet deadlines. Advice Products is part of the Consumer Advice team, which helps readers make decisions about their money, health and education.

You'll learn how to write and edit for a consumer audience; how to use a content management system; how to prioritize projects on a deadline; SEO best practices; and analytics tools to monitor website traffic. You will participate in Consumer Advice events and meetings and receive one-on-one coaching from your supervisor.

Job Responsibilities:
  • Writing bylined guides and other types of content for Best Colleges rankings
  • Updating Best Jobs profiles
  • Researching and editing other types of content, such as credit cards and loans articles

Summer Intern Program Description:
  • 10 weeks; ideally, starting on Monday, June 1 through Friday, August 7
  • We expect interns to work 37.5 hours/week, Monday- Friday
  • All interns are paid $14/hour

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Excellent communication skills and attention to detail
  • Ability to handle several tasks simultaneously and manage deadlines capably
  • Capable of writing clear, error-free copy and editing content to improve flow, structure and style
  • Preferred majors/degrees: journalism, English, communications and other related fields

Minimum Requirements:
  • Eligible candidates must be one of the following:
  • Part-time or full-time students who have completed 24+ credit hours (rising sophomores/juniors/seniors) and are enrolled in an undergraduate program at an accredited college or university
  • Part-time or full-time students enrolled in a graduate program at an accredited college or university
  • May 2020 graduate (Summer Interns Only)
  • Ability to exercise sound judgment, professionalism and maturity in the workplace
  • Effective communicator in both written and spoken English
  • Good oral and written communication skills
  • Proficiency in use of MSOffice Suite and Google Docs
  • 3.0 GPA or above preferred
