CDC Public Health Fellowship

A research opportunity is currently available within the Emergency Response and Recover Branch (ERRB), Division of Global Health Protection (DGHP) of the Center for Global Health (CGH) at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) located in Atlanta, Georgia.
In this research opportunity, the selected participant will learn how to contribute to the management of the CDC's Global Rapid Response Team (GRRT), an agency-wide resource, consisting of over 300 CDC emergency response staff, to help staff CDC's international and domestic emergency public health responses. The participant will learn about the GRRT surge responder program and how it is managed, from the recruitment, selection, and training of the GRRT surge responders, as well as the processes for deploying them on responses and their tracking. The participant will observe and contribute to all phases of this process through a number of different activities, which will include the following, all under the guidance of a mentor: 
  • Become familiar with the various databases related to responder information and emergency response deployments, and then participate in the data management
  • Learn how to analyze responder data to inform team programmatic changes for the upcoming year, and also learn how to develop data collection tools such as surveys and forms for program management, as well as maintain a data dashboard for continuous and timely data reporting
  • Learn about and can contribute to a mixed methods evaluation that will be conducted to understand GRRT’s perceived effectiveness among deployers and agency stakeholders
  • Learn about designing application and selection criteria for surge capacity membership (includes use of statistical software for scoring and selection process)
  • Learn how to develop and manage monitoring & evaluation activities and deliverables for internal program activities related to emergency response deployments and capacity building initiatives
Qualifications
The qualified candidate should be currently pursuing or have received a master's degree in one of the relevant fields. Degree must have been received within five years of the appointment start date.
Preferred skills:
  • Excellent data management skills, with proficiency in Excel and other statistical software
  • Good written and oral communication skills
  • French skills and other languages
