Air Management Policy Coordinator

The Department of Natural Resources, Air Management Program is seeking an Air Management Policy Coordinator to coordinate, integrate, and track the development of complex regulatory policy and planning activities related to air quality management and Clean Air Act implementation. This position will be located in the DNR Headquarters in downtown Madison.

Position Summary:  
This position will work with all major elements of the Air Management Program, as well as division and department management, to support program implementation of the Clean Air Act consistent with department policies. This position will focus the coordinating the successful completion of priority state air quality initiatives. The position will be expected to use project management processes to ensure work products associated with the position are delivered on time, adhere to high quality standards, and are coordinated across the program. The position will work with the U.S. EPA and other external stakeholders such as industry, utilities, environmental organizations, community groups, and other state agencies on activities related to this position. 

The ideal applicant is comfortable working in a dynamic policy making environment, has enthusiasm for complex assignments, can organize and coordinate work within schedule constraints and handle emergent requirements in a timely manner, has strong organizational skills and attention to detail, is an excellent verbal and written communicator, and is able to manage flexible priorities and work assignments.

Qualifications:   
Minimally qualified candidates will have:
  • Experience creating, analyzing, or interpreting environmental policies.
  • Experience managing or coordinating multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Experience communicating and collaborating with internal and external stakeholders to meet organizational goals and objectives.
In addition, well-qualified candidates will also have:
  • Experience implementing activities or programs under the Clean Air Act.
  • Experience developing formal position or briefing papers for a regulatory agency.
  • Experience drafting or developing state rules/regulation related to air quality.
  • Experience working with EPA to address or resolve environmental issues.
