Nurse Internship

Scope of Responsibility:

The Student Nurse Intern, under the direct supervision of the Registered Nurse, has responsibility for the following; accurately takes vital signs; observes and reports patient response to care; promotes and assures adequate fluid balance; performs specimen collection; provides hygiene and comfort measures; promotes and assures patient activity; promotes and assures adequate nutrition; performs patient care procedures competently; utilizes pertinent equipment and supplies competently; completes all documentation accurately and timely; and promotes and assures patient safety. The Student Nurse Intern, under the direct supervision of a Registered Nurse, will recognize and discuss age-appropriate care for a designated group of patients through the appropriate utilization of assessment, diagnosis, planning, implementation and evaluation. Working closely with an RN to assimilate, use process and discuss the data reflective of the patient’s status and to develop organizational and critical thinking skills. At the discretion of the RN, the Student Nurse Intern may be assigned basic tasks/care elements for which competency has been validated that are within the job description of Student Nurse according to the nurse practice act.

Education Requirements:
High school graduate or equivalent required. Successful completion of 1st year of nursing program for Associate degree program or entering third year of Bachelor degree program. Minimum GPA 3.25 required in nursing courses overall.

*Students must have completed the first clinical rotation of their nursing program prior to our start date.

License/Certification Requirements:
Certified Nursing Assistant required. Current CPR certification required. 

Special Requirements:

Students must provide a written letter of recommendation from a nursing instructor to be eligible for the internship.
