Under the direct supervision of the Fairfax Corps Leadership, the College Programs Intern will support the Fairfax Corps with the signature project of researching and assessing homelessness at nearby college campuses, like George Mason University, and providing detailed suggestions about Salvation Army’s capacity to respond to the need as well as potential partnerships with other community and corporate organizations.

Applications reviewed on a rolling basis. Minimum: 3 months with 15 hours/week during school year; 30-40 hours/week during the summer.
 
Time commitment: Flexible. TBD with candidate.

Essential responsibilities may include but not be limited to:
·        Conduct first-hand research on campus(es) to assess student need
·        Liaise with student support centers and other on-campus offices
·        Connect with other organizations already providing support to maximize our combined community resources and not duplicate existing services
·        Research and cultivate possible new community partners
·        Organize the operations associated with corporate and community participation and donations to combat homelessness at nearby college campuses
·        Assess Salvation Army resources and building use as it pertains to expanding services designed specifically for student homelessness
·        Thoroughly document all research, verification, assessments, and connections so project may be continued by staff and potential future interns to completion


Minimum Qualifications
·        Enthusiasm for The Salvation Army’s mission and the families we serve, and an open and friendly spirit.
·        Completed or working towards a college degree, preferably in a related field.
·        Computer literate with strong proficiency in Microsoft Office.
·        Strong written and oral communication skills.
·        Strong organizational skills and ability to manage multiple detail-oriented projects.
·        Desire to manage your own project; signature skills to add to resume.
·        Ability to project a professional and positive image of The Salvation Army.
