Internship: Business Architecture & Technology Planning

THE POSITION
The Hennepin County Information Technology (IT) department is seeking students currently enrolled in post-secondary or graduate school to participate in a part-time internship opportunityThe primary role will be working with IT business and IT technology teams to assist with understanding needs, gaps, assessing future direction, research, preparing and sharing information for awareness, and assisting with identifying courses of action. This is not a software development / IT engineering position.

About this internship:
This position is a limited duration, temporary, non-benefit earning internship.

Location and hours:
Students for this internship will work part-time, 20 hours per week, May through August 2020 with the possibility of extension on a case-by-case basis. This internship is located at the Government Center 300 S. 6th St, Minneapolis, MN 55487.
 
In this internship, you will:
  • Manage documents in SharePoint
  • Help facilitate meetings
  • Organize large lists of information
  • Create and analyze business models
  • Create and present PowerPoint presentations
You will have the opportunity to learn:
  • Meeting facilitation
  • Note taking
  • Modeling techniques
  • Organization of ideas, lists, and data
  • Visual thinking and presentation
  • Business systems design
  • Technology planning techniques and theory
  • SDLC processes

Need to have:
  • Current enrollment in an associates, bachelor's or master's degree program in IT or a related field; business, communication, political science or similar area.
 
Nice to have: 
  • Experience with object-oriented programming.
  • Experience training in database design, development, or maintenance.
  • Ability to:
  • Work with ambiguity
  • Break down large goals into manageable tasks and activities
  • Work collaboratively and independently
  • Build and maintain collaborative working relationships  
  • An understanding of the software development lifecycle (SDLC)
  • Working knowledge and/or experience logically structuring data in tables
  • Working knowledge and/or experience developing visual models to represent complex ideas and concepts
  • Demonstrate self-motivation and discipline
  • Strong organizational skills
  • Attention to detail and accuracy
  • Strong written and verbal communication
  • Experience with Microsoft Suite and Visio
