Student Trainee (Engineering)

The Seattle District of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers is seeking to complete up to 2 actions for summer intern positions this year in the area of Hydrology, Hydraulics and Environmental Engineering. This announcement is for the Department of the Army’s Pathways Intern Program which is designed to provide students enrolled in a wide variety of educational institutions with opportunities to explore Federal careers while still in school and while getting paid for the work performed. These positions are full-time in the summer with an option to work part-time during the following school year. A summary of the intern program is available at https://www.opm.gov/policy-data-oversight/hiring-information/students-recent-graduates/#intern . This is a civilian position with US Citizenship required.

Responsibilities:
Pathways Internship positions provide for development and training. Assignments become more responsible as incumbent increases knowledge and skills through work experience and academic training. At the full-performance level, you will be expected to:
  • Apply engineering and/or scientific methods in the areas of water resources engineering, hydraulics, environmental engineering, chemistry, water quality, and/or environmental restoration.
  • Assist higher graded scientists and engineers in preparation and review of analyses.
  • Participate in site visits to obtain field data for assigned projects.
  • Research scientific and engineering material to gather data for analysis.
  • Prepare written correspondence to document findings and summarize recommendations for review by higher graded engineers and scientists.
