Agriculture Food Sanitarian

DAS - Shared Services is advertising for the Department of Administrative Services.

Do you enjoy a mobile office and interacting with the public? The Nebraska Department of Agriculture is looking for a qualified individual to perform Food Sanitarian inspections in Western Nebraska. As an Agriculture Food Sanitarian you will be responsible for sanitation inspections of food establishments and food processing centers in Western Nebraska for compliance with the Nebraska Pure Food Act. This position's assigned inspection area includes the following Western Nebraska counties: Kimball, Cheyenne, Deuel, Garden, Sheridan, Cherry, Grant, Hooker, Thomas, Arthur, McPherson, Logan, Keith, and Perkins. Occasional overnight travel may be required. Initial training will take place in Lincoln for one to two weeks, followed by field training in the assigned area. This position may be understaffed at a Level I, with the potential of becoming a Level II once additional requirements are met. Must complete required additional training and certifications within two years of employment. Should these requirements not be met, work status and requirements will be assessed at that time.

Salary: Level I: $18.330 per hour. Level II: $19.703 per hour.


Job Duties:
This position is responsible for: a.) conducting inspections of food establishments (restaurants, bars, grocery stores, processors, warehouses, caterers, etc.) as well as temporary food concessions and mobile food units (special events, barbeques, festivals, etc.) for compliance with the Nebraska Pure Food Act; b.) Licensing establishments and collecting license fees according to the Nebraska Pure Food Act; c.) and taking appropriate action (re-inspection, hearings, notices, and closure) against establishments which are an eminent health threat to the public. Lastly, this position is responsible for investigating consumer complaints; conducting plan reviews of new or remodeled food establishments and completing daily, weekly, and monthly inspection reports.

Qualifications:
REQUIRED: Level I: Bachelor's degree with 30 semester hours in natural sciences and/or biological science. Level II: Bachelor's degree with 30 semester hours in natural sciences and/or biological science plus two years regulatory experience. Registered Environmental Health Specialist (REHS).

OTHER: A Registered Environmental Health Specialist Certification (REHS) must be earned within two years of hire. A valid driver's license in order to perform work-related travel is required. Regular day travel outside the city of residence may be required in this position. Regular and reliable attendance is required.
