Research Intern

Twin Cities Orthopedics is announcing an opening for a one-year (40 hrs a week) position for a sports medicine orthopedic research intern. The candidate would be expected to be working during this year on collaborative research projects among the practices of Robert LaPrade MD, PhD, Christopher Larson MD, J. Chris Coetzee MD, and others who have sports medicine-related research projects.
In particular, the position is posted with anticipation of either a medical student taking a year off to further enhance their Curriculum Vitae or for a newly graduated MD candidates who did not match in an orthopedic residency who wishes to participate in a year of research to enhance their Curriculum Vitae.
We expect the one year position to begin on or around June 1, 2020. Expected candidates should submit their Curriculum Vitae, personal statements and three letters of recommendation.

Essential Functions:

  • Conduct qualitative and quantitative data collection and data analysis
  • Prepare presentation-quality charts and tables to include in project reports and power point presentations
  • Assist with writing and proof-reading manuscripts and project reports
  • Review professional publications from various sources to extract and summarize information relevant to assigned project and proposal work
  • Support physicians with educational activities for regional, national and international meetings
  • Performs data collection, analysis, reporting and presentation of quality improvement activities
  • Any and all other duties as assigned
 
Education and Experience Requirements:
  • Bachelor’s Degree required
  • Medical Student in Health Services or newly graduated Medical Doctor not matched in an orthopedic residency

  • Comply with all applicable laws and regulations, (e.g. HIPAA, Stark, OSHA, employment laws, etc.)
  • Demonstrate prompt and reliable attendance
  • Work in the clinic, office or surgery center during business hours 
  • Travel independently throughout the clinic, office or surgery center (which may include movement from floor to floor); frequent bending, lifting, standing, stooping or sitting for long periods of time may be required
  • Work at an efficient and productive pace, handle interruptions appropriately and meet deadlines
  • Communicate and interact in a respectful and professional manner
  • Prioritize workload while being flexible to meet the expectations of the daily operations
  • Apply principles of logical thinking to define problems, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions
  • Understand and execute a variety of instructions
  • Effectively operate equipment and communicate on and operate the phone system
  • Work independently with minimal supervision
  • Travel to other work locations, if required
