Public Relations Intern

Location: Minnesota History Center, 345 W Kellogg Blvd, St. Paul, MN 55102

Description: The Public Relations Intern will be responsible for assisting public relations and social media staff in daily operations and activities to raise awareness about and increase attendance for the Minnesota Historical Society. 

Ideal degrees: Undergraduate junior or senior. Coursework or interest in public relations, communications, web, marketing/advertising, or equivalent preferred; coursework or interest in history is recommended. 

Student Qualifications: 
  • Excellent written, verbal, proofreading and organizational skills required. 
  • Microsoft Office proficiency required. 
  • Experience using Adobe Photoshop and online content management systems, like Drupal, preferred. 
  • Familiarity with social media preferred.  

Student Responsibilities: 
  • Help maintain the MNHS online event calendar (MNHS.org/calendar), including editing info, uploading events, and preparing photos 
  • Prepare and write event-focused news releases and media calendars aimed at local reporters 
  • Upload MNHS event listings on tourism websites, like Explore MN, Meet Minneapolis, and Visit Saint Paul 
  • Attend department meetings to assist in project planning and help with effective communication of project goals 
  • Perform various other duties and responsibilities as required and assigned 

Knowledge intern is expected to gain: 
  • Experience writing, creating, and maintaining content for web and public relations 
  • Understanding of the Strategic Communication department goals, strategies, and overall function 
  • Improved communication and writing skills 
  • Samples of work to include in student portfolio
