About AmeriCorps VISTA:

Year-long AmeriCorps VISTA members serve for a full year and perform indirect service such as resource development and program coordination.  

Service begins on Monday, June 8, 2020 and ends on Monday, June 7, 2021.

About the Northern Hope Center :

The primary goal for the Development Coordinator VISTA position is to increase the Northern Hope Center’s (NHC) organizational capacity and the sustainability of the only drop in center in the community for people suffering from mental illness. The Northern Hope Center is member led and operated with over 60% of the board having a diagnosed mental illness. The center only has one full time employee and has a limited budget but provides valuable peer support services that assist members achieve long-term stability and financial independence. The Development Coordinator VISTA will identify, recommend, and seek out new sources of revenue for the NHC to strengthen the sustainability.

The main objectives of the Development Coordinator VISTA will be to expand the organizational capacity and long-term financial sustainability of Northern Hope Center. The activities for this position will include: 
  • Identify and create a list of recommended training needed to implement the peer-support programming improvements approved by the Site Supervisor 
  • Coordinate peer-support training and train the trainer courses to ensure the required training is sustainable beyond the VISTA term 
  • Research effective fundraising practices 
  • Create a list of recommended fundraising activities 
  • Create a list of recommended funding opportunities for NHC’s anti-poverty programs 
  • Research effective donor solicitation and relationship development strategies 
  • Create a list of recommended donor solicitation and relationship development strategies to the Site Supervisor 
  • Develop targeted donor list 
  • Produce a donor engagement strategy

Program Benefits : 
  • Living allowance of $1,333 per month.
