About AmeriCorps VISTA:

Year-long AmeriCorps VISTA members serve for a full year and perform indirect service such as resource development and program coordination.  

Service begins on Monday, August 31, 2020 and ends on Monday, August 30, 2021.

About ThrivAlaska:

ThrivAlaska works to eliminate poverty by serving as an early childhood services hub to over 2,000 children, families, and child care providers in order to build a stronger community, starting with the youngest citizens. Their diverse programs include Head Start Birth to Five, thread Resources and Referral, thread Child Care Assistance, and School Age program at the nearby Pearl Creek Elementary School. The programs provide quality childcare, education, and nutrition for young members of the Fairbanks community experiencing poverty. The VISTA will help ThrivAlaska increase their capacity to leverage resources to become more sustainable. The VISTA will be responsible for helping to develop sustainability and marketing plans for ThrivAlaska’s anti-poverty programs. In collaboration with the Board of Directors, Executive Director, and leadership team, the VISTA will help research and begin the initial planning for an effective outreach and communication campaign to educate and cultivate community support. This is a volunteer service position with a living allowance of $1,333 per month and an annual education award of $6,095.

The VISTA will lay the foundation for the expansion of ThrivAlaska’s anti-poverty programs. Activities include: 

•Develop an annual fundraising schedule of events
•Help organize and conduct fundraising activities
•Assist with grant writing to build financial capacity for anti-poverty programs
•Develop a comprehensive funding plan
•Help recruit volunteers to boost volunteer pool
•Recommend improvements to existing volunteer tracking system or explore the establishment of new tracking system
•Assist in the development of marketing materials and outreach events to reach people experiencing poverty
•Design advertisements for ThrivAlaska’s anti-poverty programs
•Create website and social media content that markets ThrivAlaska’s anti-poverty programs
•Engage local media to inform the public about ThrivAlaska’s anti-poverty programs
•Promote outreach events through marketing material distribution, speaking engagements, radio/television/newspaper interviews and advertisements as appropriate

Program Benefits : 

  • Living allowance of $1,333 per month.
  • End-of-service choice between an education award of $6,095 or cash stipend of $1,800.
  • Relocation allowance of $0.40 a mile (after the first 50 miles).
  • Settling-in allowance of $750 (if moving 50+ miles).
