The U.S. Commercial Service Germany offers internship opportunities throughout the year at the U.S. Embassy in Berlin and the U.S. Consulate General’s in Düsseldorf, Frankfurt and Munich.
What You Will Do
The U.S. Commercial Service Germany at the U.S. Embassy in Berlin, and the American Consulate General Düsseldorf, Frankfurt, and Munich promote the advancement of U.S. goods and/or services into the German market and inward investment into the U.S. We provide a range of services and programs to help American companies export goods and services to Germany.
The U.S. Commercial Service is the trade promotion arm of the U.S. Department of Commerce’s International Trade Administration. Our office analyzes information on the German market, facilitates contacts with German businesses, promotes U.S. products in Germany and European marketplace, and advocates U.S. business interests. We assist trade missions to Germany and provide logistical support to U.S. companies holding product launches and exhibitions.
Interns work with the Commercial Service staff by:
·     Collecting and analyzing information for market research reports in conjunction with trade delegations; including potential business partners, trade data, and in country promotions
·     Assisting with our matchmaking services that help U.S. companies find partners and distributors in Germany
·     Advising American and German companies in diverse trade issues
·     Managing the U.S. Commercial Service websites: Germany (buyusa.gov/Germany) and the United States (export.gov/Germany) including publishing, updating, and managing content.

Who is Eligible
In order to participate in this program, you need meet the following qualifications:
·     Be able to pass a US government background check (every intern will be asked to provide personal information for a security check)
·     Be enrolled at a university or institute of higher education (after the second year /sophomore year preferred)
·     Be fluent in English (required) and German (preferred)
·     Have good communication and computer skills

Every intern must receive a positive security check by the U.S. Government prior to the start of his/her internship.
Payment and Insurance
This internship is a volunteer service. Federal regulations prohibit financial compensation. An official letter of recommendation will be provided. Most universities will award 3-6 credits for a completed internship. No federal government liability is assumed.
How to apply
We offer internships throughout the entire year. There is no deadline to apply, but it is recommended that you apply at least 4 months in advance in order to start the security process. Please include:
·     Cover Letter: Why you want to be an intern, what you have to offer, how you hope to benefit from the internship and the time frame in which you are available.
·     Resume: Future goals, computer skills, past experience, including academic accomplishments, citizenship, and years of studies.
·     Proof of student status at a university or institute of higher education

For your planning
The internship will last up to 12 weeks, starting dates are flexible. You will work a normal 8 hour schedule, Monday to Friday. Our offices are closed on all official German and American holidays. You will be able to request additional time off for any travel, studies, and/or sick leave.
