Agriculture Program Coordinator

Position Summary: Join the growing team of the Monarch Joint Venture, a nonprofit dedicated to conserving the monarch butterfly migration across North America. The Agriculture Program Coordinator is a 1-year position, with opportunity for continuation, that will work closely with agricultural stakeholders to improve the quality of resources available to farmers and demonstrate the multiple benefits of pollinator-friendly agricultural practices. Job duties will include providing virtual technical assistance to a variety of landowners and engaging broader agricultural stakeholder groups in improving the quality and accessibility of resources available to farmers and ranchers. The position reports to the MJV Executive Director, based in Minnesota. They will work closely with Monarch Joint Venture partners as well as members of the Keystone Monarch Collaborative. 

Primary Duties:
• Establish and maintain a direct ‘hotline’ to support farmers in identifying and connecting with the most appropriate local resources based on their needs and interests.
• Design decision support mechanisms, including a directory of local technical assistance providers, programs and resources that can more readily guide web users relevant resources.
• Analyze existing farmer resources for accessibility and relevance in order to facilitate an update of the Farmers for Monarchs website maintained by the Keystone Monarch Collaborative.
• Implement and document two proof-of-concept conservation projects on Midwest (Minnesota or Iowa) farms by engaging farmers, their trusted advisors, and local conservation professionals.
• Communicate important messages related to pollinator conservation, habitat development and management in a manner that works with agriculture, resource agencies and other conservation interest.
• Enhance landowner engagement beyond monarch butterfly conservation by connecting monarch conservation efforts to other agricultural conservation benefits and priorities.
• Provide outreach, including workshops, demonstrations, and presentations, to increase awareness and recruit agricultural stakeholders.
• Foster and provide guidance for the development of long-term monarch habitat initiatives and partnerships with agricultural stakeholder groups.
