About AmeriCorps VISTA:

Summer associate AmeriCorps VISTA members serve for 10 weeks and perform direct service and work hands-on to alleviate issues such as summer learning loss, youth opioid prevention and hunger.  

Service begins on Wednesday, May 27, 2020 and ends on Tuesday, August 4, 2020.

About Bread Line Inc. :

During the summer months, Bread Line Inc offers two programs that support the Stone Soup Café: a large volunteer-ran community garden and Kids Café, a program that teaches children to prepare and serve meals to people of all ages experiencing poverty or homelessness. In the garden, the Summer Associate will help manage volunteers in gardening, harvesting, processing and distribution activities. For Kids Café, the Summer Associate will assist in developing curriculum. The Summer Associate will help with marketing for both the garden and Kids Café. The person in the position will develop volunteer coordination, youth teaching and garden development skills.

Activities will include: 

• Receive safety and best practices training on garden development and sustainability as well as food handling and preparation training
• Manage volunteers as they work in the garden, focusing on safety, accuracy and efficiency
• Promote sustainable gardening to the community by creating an example for future community gardens
• Aid in distribution of produce to organizations within Bread Line’s outreach
• Teach meal preparation to youth
• Participate in social media campaigns to promote visibility as well as flyer making and distribution
• Attend local community meetings with supervisor to promote Bread Line and its projects

Program Benefits :
