FDA Food/Packaging Chemistry Fellowship

A research opportunity is currently available at the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA), Center for Food Safety and Applied Nutrition (CFSAN), Office of Regulatory Science (ORS) located in College Park, Maryland.

This project will be to help develop methods to screen for contaminants in food and packaging. Under the guidance of a mentor, the selected participant will receive training in and will focus on: the mass spectrometry of food packaging and contaminants, in particular ambient ionization, non-targeted analysis, suspect screening, database development, and metal ionization and gas phase chemistry. Research activities will include: sample preparation, mass spectrometric method development and analysis, database creation/curation, method comparison, method validation, and experimental mechanism investigation. The goal is to develop rapid food packaging material identification and contaminant screening methods.

Anticipated Appointment Start Date: as soon as a qualified candidate is identified

Qualifications
The qualified candidate should be currently pursuing or have received a master's or doctoral degree in one of the relevant fields. Degree must have been received within five years of the appointment start date.
