Seasonal Island Logistics Coordinator - Seabird Restoration Program

The Island Logistics Coordinator is responsible for scheduling and carrying out personnel transportation and movement of island equipment, food, and supplies to seven seabird islands and Audubon’s Hog Island Camp off the coast of Maine. Coordinator will ensure transportation is scheduled and inventories maintained to support island operations. This support is critical to the Seabird Restoration Program’s ability to effectively manage & restore seabird populations and inspire & educate campers on its eight managed islands. 
The Island Logistics Coordinator will be the first point of contact for island logistics in close coordination with key staff. Onsite housing can be provided in a shared, classic Maine, turn-of-the-century mainland facility. 
The Island Logistics Coordinator will oversee the day-to-day logistical operations for Audubon’s Seabird Restoration Program, in support of island staffing schedules, helping to manage all logistics activities and associated inventory in coordination with the Seabird Sanctuary Manager and Hog Island staff.
Seabird Island Logistics
  • Work with seabird Sanctuary Manager & Assistant Sanctuary Manager to implement comprehensive logistics schedule based on island staff and volunteer schedule.
  • Assist to ensure contracts for logistical transportation are in place, up to date, and that field season schedule has been coordinated with all contracted, volunteer and partner transportation providers.
  • Procure food, propane and supplies and maintain inventory, water containers, and dry bags for transportation to islands.
  • Work with volunteers and seasonal island staff to pack and ensure transportation of supplies and mail to / from personnel living on the islands.
  • Ensure dry bags, water jugs, propane tanks, and other supplies returned from island logistics trips are returned to their proper locations and cleaned and repaired as needed.
  • Work with Seabird Island Supervisors to ensure that island trash is removed and recyclables are clean when returned to the mainland and deposit bottles and cans are separated.
  • Communicate logistics schedule effectively with contracted boat operators and SRP staff, especially in terms of required staffing.
  • At end of season, work with seasonal island staff to ensure field equipment is cleaned, inspected, and stored properly for the winter, setting aside and reporting any equipment in need of repair.
  • Ensure Herz International Fellows are fully outfitted with essential clothing and gear before they go in the field.
  • Serve as the “welcome committee” for new staff arriving for orientation in late May.
  • Coordinate SRP vehicle fleet use between seabird program and Hog Island camp.
  • Conduct boat transport as needed to near shore islands.
  • Conduct vehicle transport as needed to facilitate movement of personnel & supplies.
  • Help to manage logistical use of vehicles and boats, quickly rescheduling & de-conflicting resources in case of weather events or if evacuation of personnel is needed. 
  • Ensure the appropriate releases have been signed for island visits and safety briefing conducted.
  • Closely coordinate with staff to ensure all logistical receipts are accounted for and invoices are approved and paid.
Hog Island Camp Logistics
  • Work with the Hog Island staff & volunteers to ensure Hog Island’s logistical needs are integrated into logistical schedule, especially in regards to camper visits to seabird islands. 
  • Coordinate shipments of purchased food and supplies with that of seabird islands.
  • Assist in managing and scheduling transport of campers, volunteers, and instructors. Integrate with seabird island transportation where appropriate.
  • Responsible for getting mail to / from personnel living on the island.
  • Communicate logistics schedule effectively with SRP staff, especially in terms of required staffing.
  • Closely coordinate with staff to ensure all logistical receipts are accounted for and invoices are approved and paid.
Training/Meeting Coordination
  • Assists Seabird Island Sanctuary Manager and Hog Island Program Manager in coordinating attendee, speaker, facility and transportation needs for spring staff training and Gulf of Maine Seabird Working Group meeting.
  • Ensures final attendee counts and transportation are arranged and communicated to seabird and Hog Island teams.
  • Other duties as assigned.
This positon is full-time, 40 hours a week, seasonal position which runs April 6 2020 - August 28 2020. Start and end date is negotiable for the right candidate.
