FBI Critical Incident Response Group Research Opportunity

The FBI’s Critical Incident Response Group (CIRG) consists of a cadre of special agents and professional support personnel who provide expertise in crisis management, hostage rescue, surveillance and aviation, hazardous devices mitigation, crisis negotiations, behavioral analysis, and tactical operations.
Through aggressive training programs, state-of-the-art technologies and equipment, extensive research, and far-reaching partnerships with international, federal, state, and local law enforcement agencies, CIRG works to successfully resolve critical incidents worldwide and achieve its mission of Readiness, Response, and Resolution.
Postgraduate research training opportunities are available to conduct research in the advancement of the social and behavioral sciences with the FBI CIRG.
This program, administered by ORAU through its contract with the U.S. Department of Energy to manage the Oak Ridge Institute for Science and Education, was established through an interagency agreement between DOE and FBI. The initial appointment is for one year, but may be renewed upon recommendation of FBI contingent on the availability of funds. The participant will receive a monthly stipend commensurate with educational level and experience. Funding may be made available to reimburse the participant’s travel expenses for project related travel. No funding will be made available to cover travel costs for relocation costs, tuition and fees, or participant’s health insurance. Proof of health insurance is required for participation in this program. The appointment can be full-time or part-time at FBI in the Aquia, Virginia, area. Participants do not become employees of FBI, DOE or the program administrator, and there are no employment-related benefits.
Qualifications
The qualified candidate should have received a bachelor's, master's or doctoral degree in one of the relevant fields, or be currently pursuing a master's or doctoral degree. Degree must have been received within five years of the appointment start date. Students will be required to show proof of enrollment each semester.
