As a VISTA at United Way of the Piedmont, you will increase the number of community nonprofits implementing effective volunteer practices. You will help to expand community involvement in Quarterly Projects and Days of Service. You will develop dashboards and data visualizations to demonstrate impact of volunteer engagement. You will engage students at the nine local higher education institutions in the United Way of the Piedmont footprint to develop future advocates and donors.  You will increase resources available to support volunteerism in the community. You will document departmental processes and procedures to ensure sustainability.
The VIP program offers a unique approach to VISTA service, as you will spend 10% of your time each week working collaboratively with 19 other VISTA members placed in the community to research and implement community-wide solutions focusing on either increasing access to behavioral healthcare or increasing financial stability. Benefits include: access to food co-op, doubled food stamps at the farmer's market, housing referral, household & personal care supplies provided through the Gifts in Kind Center, ongoing professional development, reimbursement for service-related travel, discounted gym membership, & professional mentoring.

The VISTA member will support and increase the capacity of the United Way of the Piedmont (UWP) Engagement team to increase the number of community nonprofits implementing effective volunteer practices and increase the number of community volunteers successfully placed by UWP. The VISTA will do this by completing training in the Get Connected volunteer matching portal and creating,
implementing, and analyzing a community volunteer engagement survey. The VISTA will help the UWP engagement team plan and implement Quarterly Projects and Days of Service projects in the Upstate. The VISTA will also continue the work of engaging students at the nine local higher education institutions in community service by evaluating engagement strategies and effectiveness.  The VISTA will also help develop resources for volunteerism and document departmental processes and procedures to support UWP’s Financial Stability goals of increasing the number of financially self-sufficient individuals and families in the Spartanburg, Cherokee, & Union County communities.
