Community Hospital in Grand Junction, Colorado, is a full-service, acute-care hospital licensed for 60 beds. As part of the Colorado West Healthcare System, we offer full outpatient diagnostic services and inpatient care for the Western Slope region of Colorado, and eastern Utah. SUMMARY OF JOB:
Serves as a leader for clinical education initiatives. In coordination with the Director of Organizational Development, as appropriate, establishes education goals in support of the hospital mission, vision, values and strategic initiatives.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Provides oversight to the Clinical Education staff.
  • Serves as the department leader. Under the broad guidance and direction from the CNO, is expected to function with initiative and independent judgment. As a working supervisor, the director will participate in departmental activities, train and supervise personnel, direct departmental meetings, hiring, firing, promotions, disciplinary action, and evaluation of personnel. Assists with personnel development, interpretation and application of departmental policies, budgets and long-range plans. Monitors all services provided by outside contractors and supervises personnel within the department. Responsible for quality assurance consistent with organizational policies and procedures. Establishes and supports the shared governance and evidence-based practice models.
  • Demonstrates a solid business acumen with a foundational understanding of healthcare finance principles with the goal of enhancing fiscal performance and viability.
Coordinates on-going clinical education within the organization.
  • Assists clinical departments in developing education courses by coordinating and networking with senior clinical leaders, clinical department leaders, and department clinical educators/specialists. This includes assuring appropriate regulatory educational courses are offered for clinical areas.
  • Fosters and promotes a positive learning environment for adult learners.
  • Serves as education/adult learning resource for all clinical areas. Supports age appropriate and culturally diverse learning environments.
  • Contributes actively to the development of a culture of patient safety.
Serves as a resource for development of clinical competencies within the organization.
  • In conjunction with clinical leaders/educators, develops competencies for clinical areas.
  • Serves as subject matter expert for best practices in creation of competencies, check lists, and methods for validation.
Responsible for the development of orientation in all clinical areas.
  1. In conjunction with clinical leaders/educators, creates orientation materials for clinical departments. This entails research and constant coordination with clinical leaders, other members of the education team, and department clinical educators.
  • Coordinates and facilitates monthly clinical orientation.
  • Provides oversight of student clinical rotations and ensures effective student placement process through reviews and evaluations.
Serves as an administrator for the learning management system. 
  • Manages students and courses.
  • Assists employees with troubleshooting
Has a strong foundational knowledge of Pathways to Excellence and is a key member of the team supporting this journey.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:
  • Bachelor’s degree in nursing with one (1) year of related experience in clinical education
OR
  • Equivalent combination of education and experience.
CERTIFICATES/LICENSES:
  • Current and unrestricted licensure as a Registered Nurse
  • Current BLS and ACLS (ALS)
