Community Development VISTA with the City of Spartanburg
Join the City of Spartanburg team to help revitalize a low-income neighborhood with resident input and build an equitable community!
This position is part of the VISTAs in the Piedmont (VIP) program sponsored by United Way of the Piedmont. As a VISTA at the City of Spartanburg, you will develop a comprehensive equity plan. You will accelerate the development of a Highland Master Plan, to revitalize a low-income neighborhood with resident input. You will increase community awareness and engagement, and you will document departmental processes and procedures to ensure sustainability.
The VIP program offers a unique approach to VISTA service, as you will spend 10% of your time each week working collaboratively with 19 other VISTA members placed in the community to research and implement community-wide solutions focusing on either increasing access to behavioral healthcare or increasing financial stability. The VISTA member will support and increase the capacity of the City of Spartanburg to build an equitable community. The VISTA will create a comprehensive equity plan, including a racial equity component, collaborate to develop a master plan for a low-income neighborhood, and conduct community outreach designed to increase engagement around workforce development, homeownership, and entrepreneurship.
