Child Care Classroom Assistant

The LVC member will assist the teacher in a classroom at the Child Care Center, one of three early education programs operated by the Ministry of Caring. Students enrolled in the Child Care Center range from six weeks to four years old and belong to primarily low-income and homeless families.

Duties/Responsibilities:
- Guide and actively participate in activities to promote the physical, intellectual, and social development of students
- Execute food program, keeping records, maintaining a pleasant eating environment, and sharing meals when appropriate
- Establish and maintain rapport with each child in the classroom; be alert to special needs children may exhibit
- Maintain and supervise a clean, safe environment in accordance with the local licensing authority, CACFP, and NAEYC (government) accreditation guidelines
- Take responsibility for upkeep and maintenance of all materials and equipment
- Maintain consistent communication with the program director regarding questions, ideas, concerns, etc. within the classroom
- Participate in annual training required to comply with state licensing requirements (outside of regular work hours)
- Maintain confidentiality of children and their families at all times
- Follow curriculum and routines established for the classroom by the teacher; adhere to additional Child Care Center policy

- Patience to work cohesively with staff, volunteers, and clients
- Flexibility and problem-solving skills
- Knowledge of child development
- Sensitivity to the special needs of children coping with complications from poverty and homelessness
