DoD Health Sciences Research Internship

The U.S. Army Research Institute of Environmental Medicine (USARIEM), a subordinate laboratory of the U.S. Army Medical Research and Materiel Command (USAMRMC), is an internationally recognized center of excellence for Warfighter performance science and its useful applications. The Institute functions as a world-class laboratory for environmental medicine, physiology, performance and nutrition research.
USARIEM is offering a master's degree research opportunity to assist with the development, collection, organization, and analysis of ongoing and upcoming research studies. This unique learning opportunity will focus on female elite Warfighter performance, military load carriage, as well as biophysics and biomedical modeling. As a USARIEM participant you will take part and gain valuable experience in the following areas:
  1. Conducting searches of scientific literature;
  2. Collecting, analyzing, performing calculations, and charting research data;
  3. Setting up equipment for research experiments;
  4. Developing research protocols;
  5. Writing and editing of research reports; and
  6. Supporting the overall vision of USARIEM.
Appointment Length
This appointment is a twelve month research appointment, with the possibility to be renewed for additional research periods. Appointments may be extended depending on funding availability, project assignment, program rules, and availability of the participant. Desired Appointment Start Date: 6/1/2020.
Participant Benefits
Participants will receive a stipend to be determined by USARIEM. Stipends are typically based on the participant’s academic standing, discipline, experience, and research facility location. Other benefits may include the following:

Nature of Appointment
The participant will not enter into an employee/employer relationship with ORISE, ORAU, DOD, or any other office or agency. Instead, the participant will be affiliated with ORISE for the administration of the appointment through the ORISE appointment letter and Terms of Appointment.
