Berkeley Lab’s Molecular Biophysics & Integrated Bioimaging Division has an opening for a Research Associate. The successful candidate will perform semi-routine research assignments by processing and analyzing PET data obtained both at LBNL and through multisite studies for which the LBNL group has responsibility for data quality control and analysis. The person in this role will be involved in quality control of images acquired, as well as data analysis of these images. The position will have responsibility for managing and logging work on datasets, using computer programs to extract image data from images, analyzing results of studies using programs for data analysis, modifying existing scripts using a variety of programming approaches, and preparing a variety of reports.
 
What You Will Do:
  • Utilize existing programs and protocols for performing quality control measurements on PET and MRI scans.
  • Utilize existing programs for obtaining quantitative metrics from brain images, including structural MRI scans, functional MRI scans, and PET scans.
  • Modify existing programs/processing pipelines using a variety of scripting or programming languages.
  • Prepare databases of quantitative data from brain images.
  • Analyze data using software for statistical hypothesis testing.
  • Prepare reports in both statistical analytic formats and graphs/figures.
  • Maintain adequate logs and records of all analyses.
 
What Is Required:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Psychology, Neuroscience, Cognitive Science, or related field preferred and up to a few years related experience.
  • Knowledge of statistics with experience and proficiency working with statistical hypothesis testing software.
  • Experience documenting research results and record-keeping.
  • Good organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Good communication skills.
 
Additional Desired Qualifications:
  • Experience with studies of higher cognitive function (such as memory, language, etc.) in humans.
  • Experience using computer software to analyze medical images of the brain such as fMRI, structural MRI or PET.
  • Experience with Python or MATLAB.

  • M-F, non-exempt (hourly paid) from overtime pay.
