In accordance with the Agreement between Detroit Federation of Teachers and the Board of Education of the School District of the City of Detroit, the following vacancy is announced.
Job Type: Instructional

Minimum Qualifications
Education
1.     Possess a bachelor’s degree from an institution accredited by the North Central Association of colleges and secondary schools or equivalent agency.
·      Successful candidates who possess beyond a bachelor’s degree will be eligible for a salary differential.     
2.    Must possess a valid Michigan Teacher Certificate or Michigan Temporary Teaching Authorization (T2EA) with an endorsement in (Early Childhood Education ZA or ZS).
Must possess at least 2 semester hours or 3.0 CEU’s in Child Care Administration or have an Administrative credential approved by State of Michigan or be willing to obtain credential within 6 months of hire.

Essential Functions:
Under the direction of the principal or designee, the teacher will:
  • Follow the curriculum with fidelity.
  • Plan a program of study that, as much as possible, meets the individual needs, interests, and abilities of the students, utilizing the mandated curriculum.
  • Create a classroom environment that is conductive to learning and appropriate to the PreK assignment.
  • Prepare for classes assigned and show written evidence of preparation (lesson plans) upon request of the immediate supervisor.
  • Follow and adhere to the procedures and guidelines of the Early Childhood Department, State of Michigan Licensing (LARA), Wayne County RESA, GSRP, MDE and DPSCD.
  • Encourage students to set and maintain standards of classroom behavior. Develop reasonable rules of classroom behavior and procedure and maintain order in the classroom in a fair and equitable manner congruent to Detroit Public Schools Community District student code of conduct and with knowledge of the district's core curriculum.
  • Guides the learning process toward the achievement of curriculum goals - establishes clear objectives for all lessons, units, projects and the like to communicate these objectives to students.
  • Assess the accomplishments of students on a regular basis and provides progress reports as required/ requested. Complete Child Observation Record Online (COR) 3 times per year and ASQ as required by the Early Childhood Department.
  • Employ a variety of instructional techniques and media.
  • Take all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials and work station.
  • Maintains accurate, complete, and correct records as required by law, district policy, and administrative regulations.
  • Complete Home Visits twice per school year. Complete Parent Teacher Conference at least twice per school year and maintain Individual Development Plan for each student throughout school year.
  • Make provisions for being available to students and parents for education-related purposes outside the instructional day when required or requested to do so under reasonable terms.
  • Plan and supervise purposeful assignments for Associate Teacher, Noon Hour Aide and/or volunteer(s) and provide feedback to immediate supervisor as it related to their job performance if requested.
  • Strive to maintain and improve professional competence (classwork, participation in professional growth activities). Work to implement through instruction and district's philosophy of education and its goals and objectives.
  • Obtain 24 hours of Professional Development per school year including but not limited to: CPR/First Aid, Blood Borne Pathogen, Food Safety, Diversity and Licensing regulations as appropriate.
  •  Ability to work well with students, families and staff.
  • Attend staff meetings and serve on staff committees as required. Perform all other duties as assigned.


Security Clearance:
Internal Applicants
If you are a current Detroit Public Schools employee, presently employed with the district, you do not have to submit a fee related to obtaining the Detroit Public Schools security clearance, unless your new role requires a different type of security clearance.
External Applicants
If you are hired to fill a vacant position, you will be required to submit a Detroit Public Schools security clearance. At point of offer to hire, you will be responsible for a non-refundable payment of $64.50 via Visa, Master Card, American Express, Discover Card, cashier's check, or money order, payable to the DPSCD Police Department. No personal checks or cash is accepted.
