International Baccalaureate (IB) Teacher

CWA is a new IB school for Chinese students, founded by the founding team of United World College (UWC) Changshu China including Wesley Chiu, a scholar at the Harvard Fairbank Center for Chinese Studies. CWA obtains support from UWC Changshu China and Tsinghua University High School, in terms of curriculum, teaching, and research, faculty, extracurricular activities, and university counseling. CWA will commence operations for the first time in August 2020.

CWA is distinguished by three factors:

1. We mix the best of Chinese and Western education. CWA combines the concept of respect, mission, passion, and independence which notably advocated in Western education, with the excellence, grit, collaboration, and learning by doing
of Chinese culture.
2. We maximize the benefits of the IB curriculum. C WA provides students with an education based on the IB DP curriculum. On the one hand, it encourages Chinese students to continue Chinese language learning, and on the other hand, it enables Chinese students to enhance the academic strength that is internationally recognized in the 21st century.
3. We blend a strong sense of idealism and innovation. C WA is aware of the difference of STEM education between China and the West. It concentrates on guiding students to master project management skills, design thinking, and actively address the challenges of sustainability.

CWA is located in Changshu on the east banks of the beautiful Kuncheng Lake, a 57-minute train ride from Shanghai. Influenced by rich cultural and academic traditions, Changshu is famous for its practically endless tea farms of Yu Mountain (虞山), beautifully-erected ancient sculptures, and excellent restaurants. With a population of 1 million people, Changshu boasts modern infrastructure, great hospitals, and fun nightlife.

CWA’s 80-acre campus is comprised of a theater, library, canteen, football pitch, indoor and outdoor basketball courts, swimming pool, and STEM center with 1500 square meters. There are more than 100 conventional classrooms, 18 science labs, 150 faculty apartments, and accommodation for 1,600 students.
