Internship - Fall 2020 - Project Management/Human Resources

PROJECT MANAGEMENT/HUMAN RESOURCES INTERN
The Operations team plays a critical role in supporting the Partnership’s people and projects, enabling teams to further our mission to make the federal government more effective. The Project Management/Human Resources intern, as part of the Operations team, will have a unique opportunity to support the organization’s project management, human resources and talent acquisition processes.
The intern will support our talent acquisition process from creation of position descriptions through hiring and onboarding of new employees. Specifically, the intern will work directly with the Senior Operations Manager to organize hiring resources, create and update candidate communications and interview questions, and prepare new employee onboarding materials. The intern will support broader talent management through the creation and maintenance of position descriptions for positions across the organization.
The intern will also support the organization’s ongoing project management efforts. This includes gaining an understanding of project management principles and tracking 40+ projects across the organization. The intern will collaborate with project managers and keep track of new and ending projects. Additionally, this intern will provide operational support to our human resources team through tasks such as, but not limited to, updating documents and maintaining records.
The ideal candidate will have strong communication and time management skills, attention to detail, and a willingness to learn, take initiative and problem solve. Candidates should be able to work independently and in a team setting and must show a demonstrated ability to handle confidential information with discretion and professionalism. During the internship, the Operations intern will learn more about project and budget management and hiring and talent acquisition strategy. At the end of the term, the intern will come away with an increased understanding of nonprofit operations management.
PUBLIC SERVICE INTERNSHIP PROGRAM
The Public Service Internship Program is an opportunity for undergraduate and graduate students as well as recent graduates to contribute to the Partnership’s mission while developing valuable professional skills.
Fall 2020 internships available in:
  • Communications: 2-3 positions (ideal for those interested in communications, marketing, events planning)
  • Development: 1 position (ideal for those interested in nonprofit fundraising and relationship management)
  • Government affairs: 2 positions (ideal for those interested in the legislative process and federal policies)
  • Government leadership and management programs: 6-8 positions (ideal for those interested in organizational and leadership development, human capital, business of government, the federal hiring process)
  • Project Management/Human Resources: 1 position (ideal for those interested in nonprofit operations/management, talent acquisition, project management, human resources)
  • Presidential Transition: 3-4 positions (ideal for those interested in presidential transition)
  • Research, analysis and program evaluation: 2 positions (ideal for those interested in social science research)

Interns work in a fast-paced, collaborative environment. Their responsibilities vary but often include event planning and execution, research, writing and outreach to external partners, including federal agencies and colleges and universities. Additionally, there is time allocated to support the organization by taking shifts to staff the front desk and assisting other teams as needed. Due to the matrixed environment of our organization, interns will have the opportunity to work on multiple projects and learn about other teams.
The program also incorporates opportunities for professional and personal growth through workshops and trainings specifically geared toward students and young professionals, such as networking, office etiquette, resume reviews, interviewing, etc. Interns are also invited to participate in all staff-wide workshops and trainings, including brownbag speakers such as high-ranking government officials and corporate partners. Interns complete a learning agreement at the start, a mid-point review and end-of-term evaluation. Interns are supervised by a full-time staff member on their team, in addition to having the support of three intern coordinators and an assigned buddy.

Typically all internship positions are physically located in Washington, DC at the Partnership’s office and applicants must be willing to relocate to Washington, DC for the duration of the term. Please note that the Partnership does not provide housing or relocation assistance for interns. **We will continue monitoring the COVID-19 crisis throughout the next several months to determine whether fall internships will be on-site or remote work. If internships are completed through remote work, the internship is subject to a "Bring Your Own Technology" policy meaning the internship requires the intern to provide and use their own personal computer capable of accessing the internet and to have access to a high-speed internet connection during the work day.**

While each position requires a commitment to public service, the descriptions detail the skills and competencies necessary for each particular position. SELECTION PROCESS
The applicant review and selection process depends on the number of applicants, though we strive to conduct interviews (including phone and video interviews) and have offers extended within a month after the application deadline of July 3, 2020. Applicants are encouraged to apply early, as we do review resumes on a rolling basis and reserve the right to fill positions before the application deadline.
COMPENSATION
Interns receive the following compensation:
  • Full-time interns with an undergraduate or graduate degree will receive $1,000 per month
  • Full-time interns who are currently undergraduate students will receive $800 per month
  • Part time intern compensation will be pro-rated accordingly
