Solar Engineer (Ilinois-Indiana)

Fast Growing Solar Operations & Maintenance (O&M) company is seeking an entry-level hands-on solar engineer for the Illinois-Indiana region. The position presents a unique opportunity for a recent college graduate to gain hands-on technical and engineering experience with large-scale solar systems.  The responsibilities include the management of large/utility scale PV systems including all preventative maintenance, troubleshooting, repairs and operations as well as complex data analysis and report generation. Responsibilities will include: PV site analysis, asset management, technical drawings/ construction assessments, project management and system optimization. Duties will include frequent project site visits as well as remote troubleshooting/analysis via smart software platforms. The Solar Engineer will also interact regularly with company management and have frequent customer interaction.
Preferred candidates will possess some or all of the following qualifications: 
  • Desire to learn, work hard and grow with a young, entrepreneurial renewable energy and engineering company
  • Comfortable working as a team player or independently if necessary
  • Hands-on technical skills are required for this position including comfort using electrical measurement tools (e.g., multi-meters)
  • Ability to read and understand electrical/mechanical diagrams, project design drawings and other architectural plans/construction documents
  • Familiarity analyzing and troubleshooting complex electrical systems and components
  • Familiarity troubleshooting and diagnosing issues related to computer networks and data acquisition systems
  • Familiarity with power systems (e.g. 600v-1500v DC systems) is a plus
  • Experience with solar and/or photovoltaic systems is a plus
  • Proficient with technology and computing via a variety of cloud-based programs and data processing/technical/management software programs
  • Strong customer service, respect and good interpersonal skills is a must
  • Ability to lift 75lbs, work in hot/cold environments & stand/walk for long periods of time
  • Must have clean background, driver’s license and professional demeanor
  • 4 yr. Bachelor’s degree desired; Preferably in Electrical or Mechanical engineering or similar technical degree program; Interested Physics and Mathematics majors will also be considered
Students with relevant background, interest in solar and desire to learn will be considered.
