Army Public Health Center Injury Prevention Research

The mission of United States Army Public Health Center (APHC) is to promote health and prevent disease, injury, and disability of soldiers and military retirees, their families, and Army civilian employees; and assures effective execution of full spectrum veterinary services for Army and DOD veterinary missions. Under the direction of a mentor, the individual will participate with APHC's Injury Prevention Program (IPP) scientific teams to support essential public health services such as injury monitoring and program evaluation. Projects will involve the collection and analysis of information on injuries, physical fitness, and other injury risk factors for members of the Armed Services. The candidate will assist with:
  • Literature review
  • Study design
  • Data collection (which may require travel)
  • Data management
  • Statistical analysis with SAS or SPSS
  • Production of technical reports, publications, and other products. 
The candidate should have knowledge of descriptive and analytical statistics and their use in SAS or SPSS. S/he must be able to analyze, interpret, write about, and publicly present results.
Appointment Length
This is a twelve month research appointment, with the possibility to be renewed for additional research periods. Appointments may be extended depending on funding availability, project assignment, program rules, and availability of the participant.
Participant Benefits
Participants will receive a stipend to be determined by APHC. Stipends are typically based on the participant’s academic standing, discipline, experience, and research facility location. Other benefits may include the following:

Nature of Appointment
The participant will not enter into an employee/employer relationship with ORISE, ORAU, DOD, or any other office or agency. Instead, the participant will be affiliated with ORISE for the administration of the appointment through the ORISE appointment letter and Terms of Appointment.
While participants will not enter into an employment relationship with DOD or any other agency, this opportunity will require a suitability investigation/background investigation. Any offer made is considered tentative pending favorable outcome of the investigation.
