CDC Child Sexual Abuse Prevention Research Fellowship

A research opportunity is currently available with the Division of Violence Prevention (DVP), Research Evaluation Branch (REB), within the National Center for Injury Prevention and Control (NCIPC), at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) in Atlanta, Georgia.
Under the guidance of a mentor, the participant will be involved with research related to the primary prevention of child sexual abuse. CDC defines child sexual abuse as the involvement of a child (person less than 18 years of age) in sexual activity that violates the laws or social taboos of society and that he/she does not fully comprehend, does not consent to or is unable to give informed consent to, or is not developmentally prepared for and cannot give consent to (see: https://www.cdc.gov/violenceprevention/childabuseandneglect/childsexualabuse.html).
The participant will collaborate with REB scientific staff to:
- Participate in CDC-funded research studies evaluating interventions to prevent adult-perpetrated child sexual abuse
- Conduct reviews of the published literature on child sexual abuse prevention
- Conduct research to increase understanding of the risk and protective factors for child sexual abuse perpetration and victimization
- Conduct environmental scans of existing organizational policies for child sexual abuse prevention across a number of national and local youth-serving organizations
- Analyze and synthesize data from multiple sources on organizational policies for child sexual abuse prevention
This program, administered by ORAU through its contract with the U.S. Department of Energy to manage the Oak Ridge Institute for Science and Education, was established through an interagency agreement between DOE and CDC. The initial appointment can be up to one year, but may be renewed upon recommendation of CDC contingent on the availability of funds. The participant will receive a monthly stipend commensurate with educational level and experience. Proof of health insurance is required for participation in this program. The appointment is full-time at CDC in the Atlanta, Georgia, area. Participants do not become employees of CDC, DOE or the program administrator, and there are no employment-related benefits.
Qualifications
The qualified candidate should have received a doctoral degree in one of the relevant fields, or be currently pursuing the degree and will reach completion by June 2020. Degree must have been received within five years of the appointment start date.
