Disaster Relief Leader - Hands On Nashville AmeriCorps Member

The Disaster Response Leader (Leader) engages community stakeholders involved in disaster relief, researches and reports on best practices, and actively partners with Hands On Nashville’s (HON) leadership to prepare for effective disaster response. HON is the named partner for volunteer activation and management in the Metro Nashville Office of Emergency Management’s Comprehensive Emergency Management Plan, and the Leader’s efforts directly support HON’s ability to effectively serve in this role.   
 
The ideal candidate is a strong problem solver who is energized by learning, and has excellent written and verbal communication skills. Experience researching and distilling complex information required. Project management experience and disaster management skills are a plus.  
 
The Leader participates in a yearlong term of AmeriCorps service (1,700 hours) supporting HON’s mission to meet community needs through volunteerism.  
 
Member Duties   
 
  • Researches and makes recommendations based on disaster preparedness best practices 
  • Connects proactively with relevant stakeholders to enhance potential for collaboration and coordination of disaster relief efforts 
  • Finds and recommends resources that support effective management of volunteers during disaster response 
  • Identifies and joins community conversations related to disaster relief, ensuring HON’s consistent engagement 
  • Partners with HON leadership to create and maintain a comprehensive organizational disaster preparedness plan, including staff training 
  • Supports coordination of HON’s response activities in the event of a disaster 


Three Disaster Response Leader AmeriCorps service positions are available through the Hands On Nashville AmeriCorps program. Each role is slightly varied from the above position to include specific needs for each host site. For more information about each position, please visit My.AmeriCorps.Gov.

This AmeriCorps participant is part of a 23-member national service cohort that builds nonprofit capacity through a partnership between Hands On Nashville and participating AmeriCorps host sites. Members receive skills training, professional development, and networking opportunities throughout their yearlong term.
