Police Officer


POLICE OFFICER


The City of Mason City, IA is taking applications for the Civil Service Commission entrance examination for the full-time position of Police Officer, which consists of a physical fitness and written examination.


Minimum Standards for hiring include: A U.S. Citizen and resident of Iowa or become a resident upon being hired, must be at least 21 years of age at the time of hire, possess or be able to obtain a valid Iowa state driver’s license by time of hire, maintain compliance with City’s Admin. Policy on Operation of City Vehicles, no addictions to drugs or alcohol, no felony convictions, no disqualifying misdemeanor within the last 7 years, speak/read/write English language, pass written examination and physical agility testing. Meet one of the following education or experience requirements: 2 year Associates degree, 65 college credits in a related field, six months of experience as a corrections or detention officer, current certified peace officer in the State of Iowa, or four years’ active duty service in the Armed Forces, National Guard or Army Reserves with an honorable discharge. Must be able to pass retirement system medical examination, pre-employment drug testing, have vision of 20/100 or better corrected to 20/20, pass color vision and hearing standards. Pass extensive background investigation, including fingerprint search, polygraph, psychological inventory and oral interview.


Starting salary is $26.07/hr. Additional pay for Iowa certified officers. Excellent benefit package.
