Hazardous Waste Training Post Bachelor's Research

Under the direction of the mentor, chosen candidates will participate as part of a team in the development of classroom and on-line training content/programs for persons involved with hazardous and medical waste management, the packaging and shipment of hazardous and biomedical materials/goods, and the handling and disposal of pharmaceutical waste. Participant may also be involved with the programmatic reviews on various aspects of waste management, disposal, and minimization in medical facilities, deployment scenarios, emergency preparedness, and planning document development/revision. The ORISE candidate will become intimately familiar with the Resource Conservation and Recovery Act and Department of Transportation regulations as these apply to hazardous waste management and the shipment/transportation of the biomedical materials at Department of Defense (DOD) medical facilities and thereby developing their training abilities using both online and face-to-face formats. 
Appointment Length
This is a twelve month research appointment and can be extended for additional research terms. Appointments may be extended depending on funding availability, project assignment, program rules, and availability of the participant.
Participant Benefits
Participants will receive a stipend to be determined by APHC. Stipends are typically based on the participant’s academic standing, discipline, experience, and research facility location. Other benefits may include the following:

Nature of Appointment
The participant will not enter into an employee/employer relationship with ORISE, ORAU, DOD, or any other office or agency. Instead, the participant will be affiliated with ORISE for the administration of the appointment through the ORISE appointment letter and Terms of Appointment.
While participants will not enter into an employment relationship with DOD or any other agency, this opportunity will require a suitability investigation/background investigation. Any offer made is considered tentative pending favorable outcome of the investigation.
