Urban Technology Summer Intern

About New York City Cyber Command
New York City Cyber Command (NYC3) was created in 2017 by Executive Order to lead the city’s cyber defense efforts, working across more than 100 agencies and offices to prevent, detect, respond, and recover from cyber threats. New York City Cyber Command (NYC3) is committed to protecting City infrastructure and critical systems from cyber threats, and helping residents become safer in their digital lives.

As the organization defending the largest municipality in the country, NYC3 is charged with directing citywide incident response, setting citywide cybersecurity policies and standards, and working with city agencies to strengthen their cyber defenses. 
 
Job Description
Cyber Command is looking to host current students with an interest in cybersecurity for a 12 week internship. Selected candidates will gain knowledge and experience in the following areas: 
 
• Cybersecurity research on emerging threats, mitigation, and remediation
• Policy review and analysis
• Process review and documentation
• Perform research on Industrial Control Systems (ICS) and Internet of Things (IoT) topics
• Support the development of vulnerability management programs
 
NYC3 seeks to train qualified candidates in real world scenarios so they may support our mission, gain unprecedented experience, and hopefully join us one day as qualified full time employees.
 
Preferred Skills
  • Strong critical-thinking skills, with an ability to demonstrate pros and cons of different scenarios to inform decision-making
  • Strong research and writing skills
  • Familiarity with legislation and legal opinions and corresponding impacts on public policy
  • Basic understanding of computer networks and systems and how to identify vulnerabilities within each
  • Basic understanding of statistics, linear/matrix algebra, and object oriented programming.
  • Excellent listening skills and willingness to work as part of a team 
  • Demonstrated interest in public service

Minimum Qualification Requirements:
Selected candidates must be enrolled in a degree bearing program

SPECIAL NOTE
Due to the current COVID-19 crisis, this opportunity will be remote. Internship will be unpaid and interns must show proof of their university giving academic credit or funding from their university or authorized third party. The length of this full time, 35 hours per week internship will be no longer than 12 weeks.
