Forensic Chemist(Job Id 14148)

This position is in the State of South Dakota Public Health Laboratory Forensic Section and will support on-going testing efforts in the South Dakota Public Health Laboratory Forensic Section. The incumbent will perform forensic toxicology testing on biological specimens (i.e. urine and blood) and drug analysis. Physical requirements include: the use of personal protective equipment including gloves, gown, face shield, respirator, and other equipment as needed, frequent standing, and occasional lifting. The incumbent must be capable of travel within the State of South Dakota. This position will will perform comprehensive blood toxicology analysis, comprehensive urine analysis, blood alcohol content analysis, and solid drug analysis. 
The Ideal Candidate Will Have:
Advanced degree in chemistry, toxicology, or forensic sciences. Other advanced science degrees will be considered.
Knowledge of:
  • toxicology;
  • forensic toxicology;
  • gas chromatography/mass spectrometry;
  • gas chromatography/flame ionization detector;
  • liquid chromatography/mass spectrometry/mass spectrometry;
  • solid phase extraction;
  • liquid phase extraction;
  • immunoassays.
Skill to:
  • become an expert in solid drug analysis as well as urine and blood testing for the presence of alcohol and drugs.
Ability to:
  • testify in a court of law.
