Executive Director - HOPA with EDI

GENERAL SUMMARY: The Executive Director is responsible for overall oversight and development of HOPA. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, day-to-day operational oversight of the Association, implementation of Board of Directors and Executive Committee actions and policies and program and sponsor development. Provides leadership to staff to complete tasks in a professional and timely manner.

POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Direct liaison with the President, Officers, Board, Executive Committee, Strategic Planning and key committees as assigned.
  • With Board President and Executive Committee, and Director of Administration, coordinate and produce agendas and related materials for all Board meetings and conference calls.
  • Oversee communications and staff responsibilities with all scientific and standing committees of the Society.
  • Direct and oversee all legal and contractual undertakings of HOPA.
  • Direct all fundraising and sponsorship activities of HOPA.
  • Work with Development staff to develop and implement an annual fundraising and development plan for HOPA with defined revenue diversification and growth targets.
  • With Education and Science staff, work with appropriate committees and President to set the scientific program for Annual Meetings, as well as other training sessions and workshops.
  • Work with Education and Meetings staff on program preparations, including conducting site visits, negotiating vendor contracts, determining overall policies, procedures, and schedules for HOPA meeting operations, and recommending site selections to the Board of Directors for future meeting locations.
  • With Membership staff, oversee the creation and implementation of the annual membership recruitment and retention plan.
  • In concert with the Director of Education, oversee the education and professional development programs of the association.
  • Work with appropriate staff leaders to develop and expand collaborative relationships to extend the reach of the association.
  • With Communication and Marketing staff, oversee the creation and implementation of HOPA’s annual marketing plan including determining appropriate target audiences and institutions, objectives, tactics and desired outcomes.
  • Direct and oversee the creation and implementation of an annual public education and outreach plan with defined public, governmental, and industry support and awareness targets.
  • In concert with the Advocacy staff direct and oversee the creation and implementation of an annual collaboration and partnership plan for political action and advocacy.
  • Serve as liaison for the association for all key stakeholder organizations.
  • Direct and oversee strategic planning initiatives for association.
  • Direct and oversee all financial activities of association including budgeting, monitoring and reconciliation.
  • Lead organization to be innovative and creative to expand programs, services, and relevance.

AMOUNT OF TRAVEL REQUIRED: 5-6 weeks per year; some weekends and evening work may be required.

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE REQUIRED: Bachelors degree in business administration, communications or related area, with advanced degree preferred. At least 10 years of executive leadership in program development, membership, fund development and association management; preference given to experience with medical or scientific organizations.
