COMMUNICATIONS DIRECTOR
Job Description

REPORTS TO:                         Administrator
HOURS:                                  Full-time up to 40 hours per week

This position requires someone who wants to use his or her marketing/communications skills to impact our community with the gospel. The ideal candidate thinks strategically and has experience as a communications professional in a deadline-driven work environment. This role will require a firm understanding of our church’smission and vision. The Communications position will be responsible for overseeing communications both internal and external, and works with the staff, board, and congregation to ensure the mission and vision are advanced in these areas of ministry.

The Communications position is part of the Administrative team which also includes the Administrator and a part-time Administrative Assistant (receptionist). The main focus of this position is communications but it will also include assisting with other administrative work as needed. The Communications position will assist 15 hours per week with answering the phone and greeting people who walk in so as to help cover the reception hours required but may continue to work on communications duties while performing receptionist duties.

Desired platforms of communication, but not limited to the following:
·      Print: Brochures, flyers, posters, signage 
·      Web: Manage our webpage
·      Video: Pieces that will celebrate God's work for our church
·      Social Media: Facebook & Instagram (possibly other platforms)
·      Audio/Verbal: Announcements.

RESPONSIBILITIES
·      Create, manage, and maintain a churchwide communications strategy that includes print, web, video, social media, and audio/verbal strategies, etc. that supports the church’s ministry goals.
·      Serve as the church’s brand manager, responsible for safeguarding how the church’s brand is portrayed in all communications pieces.
·      Take ultimate responsibility for all pieces of church content, including print, email, social media, web, mobile app, etc. Ensure every piece of content is technically effective, grammatically correct,doctrinally accurate, and within the church’s brand framework.
·      Use computer skills to create and finalize design and layout of advertisements, flyers, bulletin, public relations pieces, website, social media platforms, etc.
·      Lead the creation of content that engages audiences and leads to a "Next Step" of action related to the mission of the church. 
·      Ensure all of the communication platforms have a look consistent with the church’s brand.
·      Respond to questions and concerns posted to church social media accounts.
·      Stay current on trends in marketing and communications.
·      Identify ways to support and unleash the artistic talents of lay artists, photographers, and designers in the church. Identify, develop, and deploy volunteer church writers to create content for the church.
·      Conducts training for employees and volunteers on our communication strategy/plan.
·      Maintains church history documents.
·      Maintains archives of all photos, electronic and printed materials. 
·      Looks for ways to improve departmental operations by soliciting feedback from departments and develops improvement plans based on feedback. 
·      Develops and adheres to departmental budget.

REQUIREMENTS
·      At least 2 years’ experience in communications/marketing.
·      A growing Christian faith and character. 
·      Work well with others so as to reflect Christlikeness.
·      A commitment to the mission of the church.
·      Demonstrated understanding of communications to a Christian church community.
·      Excellent communicator (both written and verbal) and creative thinker with the ability to use datato inform strategy.
·      Strong attention to detail.
·      A teachable self-starter.
·      Simultaneously manage multiple projects with short deadlines 
·      Confident utilizing technology and software such as Adobe products, Canva, Facebook, and web site design, etc.
·      A strong creative flair to be used within a consistent brand strategy for the church.
·      A track record of completing creative projects with excellence and punctuality.

PREFERRED
·      Degree in marketing, communications, or journalism.
