News Apps Designer Intern (Remote) - Fall 2020

NPR’s Fall 2020 Internship Program will be fully remote. 
Program Duration: September 8 - December 11, 2020
NPR News Apps Designer Intern will help determine the best ways to use visual storytelling techniques and technology to bring stories to life on the internet. Using front-end (JavaScript, HTML and CSS) and back-end (Python) technologies, our intern will design and develop embedded graphics, standalone projects, reporting tools and analysis.
INTERN RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Produce publication-quality graphics and web development for daily and short-term stories and projects
  • Collaborate with others on the team to produce graphics and web development for larger and long-term stories and projects
  • Analyze data, research sources, and produce graphics for data reporting
  • Design graphics for multiple digital platforms
WHO CAN APPLY?
  • LOCATION: Must be planning to work during the term of the Fall 2020 internship in the United States and authorized to work in the United States. 
  • EDUCATION: Must be a current student in an accredited degree program or a recent graduate of no more than 12 months from the month of the start of the internship. 
  • TECHNOLOGY: Must have access to a personal computer, phone, and reliable internet.
REQUIRED SKILLS 
  • Ability to work quickly, accurately, and under deadline
  • Either:
  • Experience with front-end web technologies (HTML, CSS, JavaScript, D3)
  • Strong web and social media design skills
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Data analysis, visualization and back-end programming (Python or similar) skills a plus
